What a difference a year makes!

Thinking back to this time last year, things couldn’t be much more different. Back in 2014, I was a primary school teacher and private tutor. Now I’m a digital developer and father to a baby boy.

I’ve come into the marketing and PR industry from quite an unusual background. I have degrees in both Music and Education and spent six years working as a teacher in various schools around Leeds. During that time, I always had a passion for all things digital and spent much of my spare time honing my web development and programming skills.

After a period of freelancing, I started to work for Harris Associates. I expected to be nervous at first, but instead I was excited about the new chapter in my career. It was clear from the offset that this was a great place to work and I would be doing what I love – creating and developing websites.

Even from the very first day, I could tell Harris was a great place to work. Everybody was really welcoming and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. There is a clear sense of professionalism and teamwork and everyone takes great pride in their work. Attention is paid to even the smallest detail and it’s routine for staff to go the extra mile to ensure clients get what they need.

Since I started at Harris, I’ve enjoyed how varied the work can be. In a typical week I might be designing graphics, building websites, researching information, creating reports as well as working on a several different projects at the same time. I’ve definitely learned a lot in the process!

So, how do I feel about my change of career? Well, there are certainly aspects that I miss about teaching but mostly I’m excited about where I am now. Even after a short time, I already feel like I’m part of the Harris family and I’m looking forward to learning new skills and facing new challenges as both a digital developer and a father.
